A Classical Gas in Scottsdale!
By Mariah Fleming
Whether you are familiar with classical music or not, you can enjoy a rare opportunity to experience some dazzling and diverse music in a unique setting. On May 21st, the 50-member La Forza Chamber Orchestra will present its inaugural concert at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary at Scottsdale's Valley Presbyterian Church.
Led by La Forza Chamber Orchestra Music Director Frank Darmiento, the concert will include the "Overture to La Forza del Destino" by Giuseppe Verdi, "Quiet City" by Aaron Copland, "Hansel and Gretel--Prelude to Act 1" by Engelbert Humperdinck and Ludwig van Beethoven's "Symphony No. 3 in E flat major (Op. 55) Eroica."
Featured soloists on "Quiet City" will be principal trumpet Jim Benitez and Nik Flickinger on English Horn. Benitez has established an international reputation as a symphonic musician and soloist. Flickinger is a bright new voice in the double reed field, and has performed with festival orchestras around the country.
This concert promises to be an ideal activity for a quiet night with your loved one, or a family night to acquaint your kids with the world of classical music.
